Special school committees to be set up in order to save students from narcotic menace

The Ministry of Education has announced a Child Safety Week from the 2nd to the 9th of November to ensure the safety of children.

A series of programmes are to be held at schools pertaining to child safety and health.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that committees have been appointed at school level to prevent students from falling victim to drugs and alcohol.

Police requests the general public to provide information regarding places or personnel selling drugs to students.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that parents, teachers and Principals should be aware of such places.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Dr. Chameera Nilanga Samarasinghe stated that such drugs could cause neuro illnesses.
