The Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj kariyawasam Attorney at law stated that was able to do a great job in education field in past few years in the country and the guidance and leadership of Priminister Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe was a huge backing for that.

The minister expressed these views joining a ceremony of laying the foundation stone today (20) for  second Trilingual Mixed National School proposed to build at Meerigama, Pasyala, Dansalewatta implemented by  Education Ministry aiming to award the country a facilitated school system under the nearest school is the best school programme.

The Cabinet approval was granted to build this school on a special request of the Speaker Mr. Karu Jayasuriya and the ceremony of laying the foundation stone was held under the patronage of Priminister Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, and this school has been named as Don Steven Vidyalaya as an honor to first Priminister of independent Sri Lanka great Mr. D.S. Senanayake. The invested amount for this is Rs.1,142 million and this school built in a 12 archer land is proposed to be opened for students in year 2020. Classes from grade 6 to 13 is to be held and the specialty is this school is equipped with modern facilities including smart classrooms.

The Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated the present government is dedicated to improve human and physical resource of education.

The Education Minister expressed these views yesterday (08) joining a ceremony held at Temple Tree premises under the patronage of Priminister Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to award teaching appointments to diploma holders who completed a tree year pre-service National Diploma in Teaching for academic year 2015/2017 to fill teacher vacancies in national and provincial schools.

The diploma holders who got the training under 31 courses in education in 19 Colleges of Education in Sri Lanka were awarded appointments yesterday and this included 2340 Sinhala medium teaching appointments, 1300 Tamil medium teaching appointments and 646 English medium teaching appointments.

The Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed officials to do the enrollment of these student teachers to Colleges of Education as per the Gazette notification on 08-05-2015 and accordingly these student teachers were recruited on the basis of teacher requirement of each Divisional Secretariat.

The Education Ministry has made arrangements to enlist 8,000 student teachers on the same day 25th of this month to National Collages of Education for two academic years.

All selected applicants will be informed about that by post before 20th of this month.

This eight thousand will be enlisted on the same day on the results of General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) as two groups for academic years 2016 and 2017 for 19 Education Collages.

8,000 have been selected as student teachers for two academic years by calling a number of applicants three times higher for the interview than the amount to be enlisted as per the Gazette notification number 2018 dated 25th January 2019 with regard to enlistment to Collages of Education.

Signifying another turning point among revolutionary steps taken on education by Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam Attorney at law the Education Ministry has made all arrangements to open another 500 new school buildings on the same day under third stage of nearest school is the best school programme. Invested amount for this is 10,000 million rupees.

Under nearest school is the best school programme commenced from 2016 to develop rural schools facilitated with and fully equipped, development is being done under 18000 programs in 9064 schools of island offering a fully equipped school system for children of country. Total financial investment of this is 65000 million rupees. 

On instructions given by Education Minister to officials of the ministry to publicize the amount of vacancies to make the steps proper and transparent in admitting students to National School intermediate grades to for the first time in history, 44,568 students were able to enter in to National Schools.

In relevant to this except grade 1,5,6 and 11 amount of vacancies in schools and procedure of admission to intermediate grades in National Schools of whole island were publicized on 03-07-2019 national newspapers and Ministry of Education web site www.moe.gov.lk in Sinhala and Tamil medium, enabling to forward an application to any national school where a vacancy is available.

Accordingly, the Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam sates it is an excellent achievement  through challanges 25,419 Sinhala medium students and 19,149 Tamil medium students were able to enter to intermediate grades of National Schools around the island.     

The Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam Attorney at law stated that although laying of foundation stones occurred in various places for various projects during the tenure of past government there were no financial allocations for those, was able to offer a combination of projects for school system of the country by doing the largest investment of the country on behalf of education in history up to now as because of assistance and guidance given by Priminister to give financial provisions for development projects along with the main project nearest school is the best school.

The Education Ministry rugby team has been able to win the State Service Rugby Seven championship this time, and they met the Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

At the final tournament held recently at Anuradhapura public ground the education ministry team has been able to defeat the opponent Customs Authority team by 26-0 points.

3888 school sports coachers were recruited to school system to get practically involved to strengthen school sports system on the guidance of Education Minister Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam Attorney at law, and it is a specialty that the seven member team consist of athletes who showed skills in national level in rugby sport.
