Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam declared at the Ruwan Weli Seya, that he is committed to protect the Buddha Sasana and the Buddhist heritage of this country will be protected under any adverse circumstances. He made this promise at the rehabilitation of the ddddd completed and dedicated at a cost of Rs. 23 million under the Central Cultural Fund at the direction of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Most Venerable Pallegama Hemaratna, Chief Incumbant of the Chaithya was present at the occasion.
Hon. Minister further brought to notice that a special program to identify and ensure the safety of the Buddhist archaeological sites in the country. Accordingly Kuragala ancient Buudhist monasterywill be protected and under whatever circumstance and opposition may happen he will commit to protect arcaelogical sites.
In addition, he said that as much as Rs. 400 million was allocated to the protection of ancient vihare sites throughout the island from the income derived from sale of tickets to the foreign tourists. Action is being taken to provide Rs. 100 million to protect the Buddhist sites in remote areas.
This religious event was held under the chief patronage and presence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Minister P. Harrison and Minister Chandrani Bandara, amongst other ministers and members of parliament and officials.
