The Minister expressed this opinion today (07) at an Archaelogical Conference held at the Lanka Foundation to mark the National Archaelogical Day. He also mentioned that the previous government was unable to preserve a number of valuable archaeological sites thus hampering their value in the field of archaeology. The archaeological sites are a national heritage and need to be preserved. He regretted this. It is necessary that one should have the desire, open mind, and an inclination to have this heritage preserved. Lack of such an attitude is deplorable. Hiding these facts they keep on blaming the Minister in charge of the matter and it should be stopped. They do this to protect themselves of their inability in the past and blame the Minister himself , To blame the subject minister and the and government
It is a timely need to create an international awareness for sufficient knowledge imparted on officials associated with it in this country towards preservation of archaeological field. The minister further statedthat a Cabinet paper with regard to this is tabled. This is in addition to the existing customary circulars. The new methods of international conservation technique. These are being brought into the country. These are essential for the modern and future generations. This in turn will broaden our knowlege
Similarly, steps would be taken assist in introducing new developments in the field of archaeology and script reading. The minister also called for a continued support from the scientific community in addition to the clergy towards the development of archaeological field, In this archaeological conferernce, more than 26 scientific papers on heritage management, heritage sites, frescoes and murals were presented.
In addition 8 publications under the auspicious of the Hony Minister on Department of Achaelogy Annual Magazine was released with articles of value in the field of archaeology
