A new Education Act which contains several updates to the present Education system will be brought before parliament soon, Education minister Akila viraj kariyawasam said in Kurunegala on Sunday.

The Minister said the new Right to Education Act would ensure a13-year Education for every child. Highlighting  some of the key changes, Minister Kariyawasam said provisions would be included in the new Act to streamline teacher transfers. He also said the Education Ministry has now obtained permission to supervise all private and international  schools countrywide.

“Therefore, supervisory Boards Would be set up shortly. In the future ,only mixed schools will be opened countrywide .Accordingly , children of different communities can study together.”     

We plan to introduce a well-designed system for outstanding students to enter popular and leading schools in the future. All Madrasas will come under the purview of the Education Ministry.                                                      

                                    

Newly recruited Sports coaches to Government Schools numbering 3888 received their appointment letters from Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees yesterday.

The Education Ministry emphasized Arab schools and Madrasa schools which accused for Socialization of Islam extremism are not under or regulated by the Ministry.

 During past days it was noticed that some groups and people issued statements stating that these schools are established under Ministry of Education and therefore the Ministry is responsible for the extreme teachings conducted by these schools.

 All these statements are baseless and as per the power vested on Ministry of Education the Ministry of Education emphasized their officers have further verified that these Arab or Madrasa schools do not operate by national schools under the Ministry, provincial   schools, Government approved private schools, assisted special schools or pirivenas and Ministry of Education does not have any regulatory powers to monitor such places.

With the use of digital technology , the Education Ministry has decided to issue General Certificate of Education O/L and A/L examination certificates via online system, the Ministry said yesterday.(13)

“Earlier applicants had to come the Examinations department from various area of the country ,Due to the influx of people at the Department issuing certificates became more time consuming ; creating more issues’.

However, the Department requests O/L and A/L applications to visit the updated official website https://doenets.lk/ to obtain their certificates with 24 hours.

Applicants can obtain exam certificates by following these steps as issued by the Examinations Department: visit the Department’s website https://doenets.lk/, Enter National Identity Card number ,mobile phone number and email address ,enter the one – time password )OTP) sent to the phone number/email address provided and enter the following details on the from appearing on the website: Name of examination ,year ,candidates number ; check whether the name of candidate appearing on the website is correct ,enter the type of certificate required , number of copies and the method of obtaining the document, Make the required payment as displayed and the certificate will be displayed on the website after the payment is received and confirm the method of obtaining the certificate.

The steps have been taken to implement a special operation on the instructions of Minister of Education; Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to ensure the security of the schools and the students.

As the Ministry of Education has a firm responsibility of safeguarding the security of all schools students, teachers and non-academic staff, Minister of Education; Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, has emphasized the significance of more systematic implementation of this operation in all National and Provincial school premises and their surroundings drawing the attention of all the parents and elders.

Second school term is scheduled to be commenced on coming 29th, Monday. This operation is to be put into effect in advance to ensure the security of all National and Provincial school premises and their surroundings.

Minister of Education; Mr. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, has already informed all security chiefs in this regard, and Secretary of the Ministry of Education; Mr. Nihal Ranasinghe, has made written requests from Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of Three Forces and Inspector General of Police to extend the support to strengthen the security of schools and the surroundings.

Prior to the scheduled start date of second term of school (29th of April), immediate actions are to be taken to ensure the security of school students checking the security of school premises and surroundings, school buses, vans and public transport services.

Ministry of Education has taken steps to inform all Provincial Secretaries of Education, Provincial Directors of Education and Zonal Directors of Education in respect of this program.

 

Sinhala and Tamil media teachers recruited under graduate recruiting scheme for Sri Lanka teacher service grade 3-1 (a) and grade 2-11 were awarded appointment letters by Education Minister Mr.Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today (30).

This was at Battaramulla , Ape Gama premises. Appointment   letters were given to 592 .
