2019  1st term school holidays have been extended till 28th April and the Educational Minister Mr Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated according by all government school will be open on Monday the 29th of April 

Meanwhile the Educational Minister's stated as the Trainees of all National education colleges  engaged in studies at  present in hostels at present the examinations for them to be held on 26th April as have been informed already  

Japanese students of Asia Pacific Children forum who visited Sri Lanka under the exchange program met the Education Minister Mr Akila Viraj kariyawsam, at the auditorium. Minister engaging in a friendly discussion expressed his experience gathered in Japan and exchanged pleasantries, distributed souvenirs for the delegates

General Secretary of United National Party Education Minister Mr.Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated it has been decided to commemorate this May day rally with a large gathering of people at Colombo Municipal Grounds. The United National Party has shown their strength during last few months by holding the largest rally ever of this country  with the highest gathering of people

It has been already started re-organizing the party and Sirikotha Gamata commenced from Kalutara District and Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam further stated that after holding May day Sirikotha Gamata program is  scheduled to start from Anuradapura District.

Stated hope to declare about the common alliance together with both United National Party, United National Alliance before May day rally.   General Secretary emphasized that special along joining with the main party leaders, members ,politicians including peoples alliance members wish to join the United National Party has decided to launch a programmer in oder  to win the next General Election.

Mr Akila Viraj kariyawasam stated in parliament it has been reported to him that school children of some areas are studying  in pathetic situation such as schools made of coconut roofs with less facilities and the provincial politicians are directly responsible for the situation.                     

 The Education Ministry has taken action through nearest school is the best school project  to make schools with less facilities in  to complete schools island wide Minister reminded in selecting schools for this conversion to follow the accepted norms and in some instances due to interference without following the norms by provincial politicians these types of issues have been aroused
